About Surabhi Handicrafts & Handlooms – Art & Craft in Bengaluru
We’ve been here in Frazer Town on Whelers Road for a good while now. The shop is full of handlooms and different handicrafts that we bring in. It's not a very big space, but every corner is packed with something. Some days it gets quite dusty because of the traffic outside on the main road, so we spend a lot of time just cleaning the shelves and making sure the fabrics stay neat. There are piles of cotton and silk items tucked away in the back. Usually, the morning starts with opening the shutters and checking what needs to be organized. It's mostly just us here, moving things around and talking to the people who wander in from the neighborhood. We don't have any fancy displays or anything like that. The floor is a bit worn out from people walking through. Sometimes the light inside isn't the best, but you can still see the colors of the threads clearly. We spend most of the afternoon folding things back up after someone has looked through them. It’s a quiet kind of work most of the time. When the rain comes down hard on Whelers Road, the shop gets a bit damp, but we just move the stuff away from the door. It’s just a regular place where we deal with traditional weaving and handmade goods. We don’t do much else besides sitting here and making sure the stock is okay for whoever needs it.
