Standard Machinery Marketing Co.(P)Ltd. is tucked away inside 205B of the Broklyn Apartments on Banaswadi Road. It’s a bit unusual to have a machinery business in an apartment block, but it works for us here in Jaibharath Nagar. The building is a bit older now, and the stairs can be a bit of a climb if the lift is acting up again. Inside, we’ve got shelves full of heavy catalogs and technical manuals that have been there for years. We spend our time talking to factories and people who need spare parts or new equipment for their shops. It’s a lot of talking on the phone and writing down order numbers on pads of paper. We aren't really into the whole digital transformation thing; we prefer our old ledger books and the way we’ve always done things. The neighborhood is nice because you can walk out and find a good tea stall or a small bakery right around the corner. Sometimes the office gets a bit cramped when a big shipment of brochures arrives, but we just pile them up in the corner. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. If you walk in, you’ll probably just see one of us leaning over a desk with a calculator. It’s a practical way to run things, and it keeps our costs down. We’ve been in this same spot for a long time, and the locals all know us by now. We just take it one day at a time.
