Standard Furniture is over at 23 Shivaji Nagar in the Mahavir Nagar area. If you walk into our place, the first thing you’ll notice is the smell of wood and maybe some sawdust on the floor. We spend our days building things like tables, chairs, and cupboards for houses around here. It’s not a factory; it’s a workshop where we use our hands and some old power tools. We have a few finished pieces out front, but a lot of what we do is just working on whatever order came in last week. The space is a bit cramped because we have planks of wood leaning against the walls and tools scattered on the workbenches. Shivaji Nagar can get pretty loud with all the people, but we usually have the sound of sawing or hammering going on anyway. We don't have a glossy catalog to show you. Usually, we just sketch something on a piece of paper and talk about the wood. Some days are slow and we just tidy up the shop, and other days we are working late to finish a wardrobe. We’ve been in this spot for years and know most of the people who live on this block. It’s just honest work, making furniture that lasts without any of the extra fluff you find in big stores. We stay busy with the local orders mostly.
