Sri Tirumala General Store

We have been running Sri Tirumala General Store at Malleshwaram Juhu Tara Road 79 for a good while now. It’s a neighborhood shop, nothing more and nothing less. Most of the day is spent weighing out things like rice and sugar or helping people find the right brand of soap. We have shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, so we’re always climbing ladders to reach things for people. It gets a bit cramped when more than three people are inside at once, but nobody seems to mind. We know most of the people who come in by their first names because they’ve been living in the area forever. There’s a cat that hangs around the front door, and we usually give it a bit of milk in the mornings. We don’t have a computer for the billing, just a pad of paper and a pen that we keep behind the counter. Sometimes we run out of things and have to tell people to come back tomorrow, and that’s just the way it goes. The shop stays open late because that’s when everyone is coming home from work and realizes they forgot to buy something for dinner. It’s not a flashy life, but it keeps us connected to the neighborhood and we like seeing the same faces every day. It’s just a regular local store doing its thing in our little corner.
