Sri Laxmi Metal Works

Peenya Industrial Area is a tough place to work sometimes because of all the heat and the constant hum of heavy machinery from every direction. We are right in the middle of it at Sri Laxmi Metal Works. Our floors are concrete and usually have a few oil stains, which is just how it goes when you’re working with metal all day. We don’t wear suits or sit in air-conditioned rooms. Most of the time, we are in our work shirts with sleeves rolled up, handling the lathes or the welding kits. It is a noisy life, but you get used to it after a week or two. We have a small corner where we keep our tools organized, though they always seem to wander off when things get busy. Lunch is usually eaten quickly so we can get back to the orders. We don't have a mission statement on the wall, just a calendar and maybe a picture of a god for good luck. The work is physical and tiring, but there is something good about seeing a finished piece of work at the end of the shift. We just try to keep the machines running and the customers satisfied without any big talk. It’s just a bunch of us doing what we know how to do best in this dusty part of town.
