Sri Guru Ragavendra Rice Traders

Sri Guru Ragavendra Rice Traders is a simple operation here in Nagarbhavi at number 56. The main thing you notice when you walk in is the smell of the rice. We have big sacks stacked up high against the walls. It takes a lot of work to move them around, so we are always a bit tired by the end of the day. The floor is usually covered in a thin layer of grain dust. We sweep it up but it always comes back. We have a small desk near the entrance where we keep our ledgers. It’s an old wooden desk that has been with us since we started. There is a small calendar on the wall and a photo of the family. We don’t have air conditioning, just a big ceiling fan that wobbles a little when it’s on the high setting. Nagarbhavi is a nice area, though it has gotten much busier lately. More cars and more noise than there used to be. We just stay inside and handle the rice. People come in to buy a bag or two, or sometimes just to see what we have in stock. We don't do any big advertising. Most people just know where we are because we’ve been here so long. It’s a steady job. We lift the bags, we weigh them, and we talk to the customers. That’s about it for us. It is honest work.
