Sri Bhrahmalingeshwara Condiments

Sri Bhrahmalingeshwara Condiments is right on the main road in R. T. Nagar. It’s a busy spot in Bangalore and there is always a line of scooters parked out front. The shop isn't very big but we pack a lot of things into the space. We have those glass cases where we keep the spicy mixtures and fried snacks. People stop by for their coffee or tea and they stand around the small tables outside. I spend a lot of my day just refilling the jars and making sure the packets are lined up. The rain in Bangalore can start suddenly, and then everyone crowds inside to stay dry. The walls have some old calendars hanging on them. I keep the accounts in a red book that sits next to the cash box. It gets quite loud with the buses going past, so sometimes I have to ask people to repeat what they want. We have the usual stuff like biscuits, bread, and some local powders for cooking. The floor gets swept a few times a day because of all the feet coming through. It’s a simple routine and the regulars know my name. Some days are just long and I’m glad when it’s time to close up. The light outside the shop is a bit dim but everyone knows we are here. RT Nagar has changed a lot. The main road is much busier than it was when we first started. The items we keep are usually moved through pretty fast.
