Sri Ayappa Stores

We are right here in Banaswadi on the 5th Main in Channasandra, inside the OMBR Layout. The store has been part of this neighborhood for years and we know most of the families who live on this street by their first names. We open up early in the morning, usually before the sun is fully up, so people can get their milk and newspapers. The shelves are packed with everything from pulses to soap and sometimes it feels a bit cramped when three or four people are inside at once. We don't have a supermarket style setup, it's just us reaching for things behind the counter and handing them over. The kids come in after school for snacks and we have to keep an eye on the jars of sweets near the front. On weekends it gets really busy and we barely have time to sit down. My nephew helps out on his days off when the deliveries arrive and we have to stack the heavy bags of rice. The floor is made of old stone and it’s seen a lot of feet walking over it. We have a small radio that plays local songs in the background but usually the chatter from customers is louder. It's a nice life being in the middle of a community like this. We don't need fancy signs or lights because everyone knows where we are.
