Southern Steel

Southern Steel is found at 19 Chamarajendrapet, in the Anand Nagar area. We are right next to the Chandra Bhavan Hotel, which is a good place to grab a bite and also helps people locate our shop. The business is all about steel—rods, sheets, and whatever else people need for construction. It’s a heavy environment. There’s a lot of clanging noise when the metal is being moved or loaded onto trucks. We don't have a fancy showroom. It’s more of a warehouse and a small counter where we handle the bills. The floor is usually covered in metal shavings or bits of rust, and that’s just how a steel yard looks. We spend our time measuring lengths and making sure the counts are right. Chamarajendrapet is an old industrial and commercial pocket, and we fit right in. We’ve seen the neighborhood change, but the demand for steel stays pretty constant. We don't do much in the way of advertising. Most of our work comes from people who know we are next to the hotel. It’s hard work, lifting and shifting steel all day. We keep the registers and try to get the orders out on time. If you come by 19 Anand Nagar, you’ll see us working away among the stacks of metal. It’s a simple, tough business and we just keep it going. There is always a lot of work to do before we can call it a day and go home.
