If you know Balepet, then you know how tight MR Lane can get. Being right next to the Bangalore Hosiery Complex means there are always trucks and carts moving around. We are at number one in the Raj Kushal Complex, which sounds bigger than it actually feels when we’re unloading stock. It’s a lot of lifting and moving boxes from one corner to the other. My back usually starts aching by four in the afternoon. We have these old metal shutters that get stuck halfway if you don't pull them just right. It’s a bit of a trick to it. The floor is concrete and has a few cracks near the back where the heavy sacks sit. We don't have fancy displays or bright lights. It’s mostly just shelves piled high with whatever came in that week. Sometimes the invoices get lost under a pile of samples, and we have to spend an hour digging through everything. It’s a noisy place to work, with all the shouting from the lane and the horns honking, but it’s home for us. We drink a lot of coffee to stay awake during the afternoon slump. People come in looking for deals, and we just tell them what we have on the floor. It’s straightforward, no-nonsense stuff. We’ve been here for years and the neighborhood hasn't changed much, just gotten a bit more crowded. We just keep our heads down and get the work done.
