Somu Sound System & Stage Lights is located at Rajajinagar 89/1. It’s a pretty straightforward setup we have here. The front of the place is usually piled up with speaker boxes and rolls of black cable that never seem to stay organized no matter how many times we coil them up. Rajajinagar is a busy area, so there is always someone popping in to ask about a small speaker for a birthday or something for a local temple function. We’ve got the stage lights tucked away in the back because those are more delicate and you don't want people tripping over them. Most of our work happens on the weekends when everyone else is off. That’s when we load the heavy stuff onto the tempo and head out. My cousin helps out with the wiring because he’s better at the technical side of things than I am. We’ve been at this address for a long time, so most of the shopkeepers around 89/1 know us well. It gets dusty in the shop, especially in the dry season, so we spend a lot of time wiping down the mixers and the light casings. It isn't a glamorous job, but it’s what we know. We have a couple of old chairs outside where we sit in the evenings and watch the traffic go by. There is always something to repair or a fuse to replace, so we stay pretty occupied from morning until late at night.
