Sharad Rice Corner

Sharad Rice Corner is located at Rabrindranath Tagore Nagar 1. It is mostly just stacks of heavy burlap bags piled up against the walls. We have different kinds of rice in big open bins so people can see what they are getting. It smells like grain and dry husks in here all the time. We spend a lot of our day scooping rice into plastic bags and weighing them on the old scale. Some people buy just a kilo, and others want a whole fifty-kilo bag loaded onto their scooters. Our backs get a bit sore from all the lifting, but you get used to it after a while. The floor is concrete and it always has a bit of white dust on it from the rice. We have a small desk near the front where we keep the ledger and the cash box. RT Nagar is a busy area, so there is always someone popping in to check the prices. We don't do any fancy packaging, just plain bags and a bit of string to tie them up. It is a quiet kind of business for the most part. We talk to the neighbors and watch the traffic go by the front door. We keep the shutters open from early morning until late evening. It is just a regular shop for people to get what they need for their daily meals. We just focus on keeping the bags filled and the scale accurate.
