Shankar Trading

You can find us on M.M. Road, which is almost always busy with traffic and people rushing around. Our shop is just one of many along this stretch, and we have been here for a good while now. The space is long and narrow, filled with whatever we are trading that week. We don't have much of a sign, but people who know the area find us easily enough. The front shutter is usually halfway down if the sun is hitting it directly, just to keep the heat out. Inside, it’s a bit of a jumble with ledgers piled up on the desk and samples of goods sitting in small bowls. We spend a lot of time on the phone talking to suppliers or just chatting with the other shopkeepers on the block. There is a lot of soot from the buses that pass by, so everything gets a thin layer of grime if we don't wipe it down every single morning. It is a noisy place to work, but you get used to the sound of horns and shouting after a few days. We usually eat our lunch right there at the desk while watching the street. It’s a simple business and we just take things as they come, day by day. Sometimes a customer stays for an hour just to talk about the weather or the local news while we wait for the next delivery to arrive at the shop.
