Shankar Steels

Shankar Steels is tucked into a busy little spot at No. 14, G.C. Street in Motinagar. We are right behind the Bamboo Bazar and near the City Market, so it’s always crowded and loud outside. Getting a truck down G.C. Street can be a real struggle, and we spend a lot of time guiding drivers so they don't hit the neighbor's wall or any of the carts. Our shop has been here for a long time, and the building shows its age. The walls are a bit stained and the roof leaks a tiny bit when it really pours, but it’s home to us. We handle a lot of small and medium steel orders for people working in the market or living nearby. It’s a family business, and you’ll usually find one of us sitting at the old wooden desk near the front entrance. We don't have any polished brochures or a sales team. People just come in because they know we’ve been here forever. The floor is always a bit messy with metal scraps and dust, so it’s best to wear solid shoes when you visit us. We don't pretend to be anything we aren't. We are just a local steel shop in the heart of Motinagar. We know most of our customers by their first names, and that’s how we like it. It’s a lot of work and the hours are long, but we’re proud of what we do here in the market and how we've lasted this long.
