Saraswathi Furnitures

Saraswathi Furnitures is located at 41613 Banaswadi. The address is a bit specific because we are tucked into the area with Mandvi's Pole, Nagjibhudar's Pole, and Mankodi Pole, right near Manek Chowk. These old lanes are very narrow and full of history, but they can be a bit of a maze if you aren't used to them. In our workshop, you’ll always hear the sound of saws and hammers. There is sawdust everywhere, on the floor, on our clothes, and even in our tea sometimes. We make all sorts of things from wood like cupboards, bed frames, and dining tables. We don’t have a big showroom with bright lights. Most of our pieces are stacked up in the back or middle of the shop. People come in from the neighborhood wanting a chair fixed or a new shelf made for their kitchen. We use our hands and simple tools for most of the work. The wood comes in as raw planks and we spend days sanding it down until it feels right. Working in Manek Chowk means it is always loud outside, but inside we just focus on the wood. It’s hard work on the knees and the back, especially when we have to move the heavy teak pieces around the narrow poles. We’ve been doing this for years, following the old ways of making furniture that lasts longer than the cheap plastic stuff you see today. We just focus on getting the sawdust out of our hair.
