Sankranthi Condiments

Nagarbhavi is always moving. We are located at number 43 and the shop is usually full of the smell of fried snacks and spices. We start early in the morning, getting the packets ready. You can hear the sound of the plastic bags being sealed if you stand near the back. We have big metal containers filled with all sorts of things. The floor is tiled and we spend a lot of time sweeping it because crumbs get everywhere. People come in mostly for their evening snacks. We know a lot of the regulars by name and what they like to buy on Fridays. It gets a bit chaotic when schools let out and the kids come running in. The shelves are packed tight. We don't have much space to move around behind the counter. There’s a small fan that wobbles a bit, but it helps when the stove is going in the back. We don’t use any fancy computer systems, just a simple calculator and a cash drawer that sticks sometimes. The sign outside has faded a bit from the sun, but everyone in the neighborhood knows where we are. We just keep doing what we do every day. Sometimes we run out of the popular items by four o'clock and have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s just how a small shop in this part of town runs. We close up around nine and head home ourselves after cleaning the counters.
