Race Course Road is where we have been doing this for years. Being near Vijayanagar helps people find us, though the traffic is always a bit of a headache. In the workshop, there is usually a lot of sawdust on the floor by noon. We spend our time working with wood and trying to make pieces that fit what people ask for. It’s not a quiet job. There is always the sound of saws or hammers going. We have a few guys who have been with us for a long time. We start early when it’s still a bit cool outside. By afternoon, the shed gets hot, so we take a break for lunch together. We don’t have a big showroom with lights and mirrors. It is more of a practical space where we build things. People come in to see the wood we use. Sometimes they want a table, sometimes a cupboard. We just write it down in a notebook and get to work. It takes time to get things right, and wood can be stubborn. Sometimes the delivery truck gets stuck in the narrow lanes nearby. We just deal with it as it comes. It is a honest way to spend the day. Most of our tools are old but they still work fine for us. We just keep at it until the piece is finished and ready to go to its new home.
