Ramdev Telecom is my small shop located at number 17 in Shimpoli Village, Austin Town. It’s not a very big place, just enough room for a counter and a few shelves for the stock. I spend most of my day sitting on a high stool looking at broken phone boards. I also sell some second-hand phones that I’ve refurbished myself. People around here know that if they have a problem with their handset, they can bring it to me and I’ll tell them honestly if it can be fixed or if it’s time to get a new one. The street outside is quite narrow, so you can always hear the people talking and the children playing. I keep a small radio on the shelf that plays local news and music all day. It keeps me company when there are no customers. I’ve noticed that people don't just come here to buy things; they often stop by to share the local gossip or ask about someone else in the village. I’ve lived in this area since I was a kid, so I know almost everyone. The shop is a bit dusty because the wind blows in from the open door, but I try to wipe the glass down every few hours. It’s hard work and the profit isn't huge, but it’s a good life and I’m glad to be serving my own neighborhood in this way. I usually close up once the sun goes down and the street gets quiet.
