Rajalakshmi Stores (V V Puram)

Rajalakshmi Stores is located over on East Circle Road in V V Puram. We are right opposite the park, which is nice because there’s a bit of a breeze coming through the door sometimes. Bangalore has changed so much, but this part of V V Puram still feels like home to us. The store is packed with all sorts of things, from rice and spices to small plastic items for the kitchen. We don't have a lot of floor space, so things are piled up pretty high against the walls. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming here for years. They know where we keep the good jaggery and which bins have the freshest pulses. It’s a simple operation really. We open up early in the morning when the milk arrives and stay open until the dinner rush is over. Sometimes it’s quiet and I can sit and read the paper for a bit, but then ten people walk in at once and it gets hectic. We don't use fancy computers for billing, just a pen and paper mostly. The park across the street is a good landmark for people trying to find us for the first time. We’ve had some leaks when the Bangalore rains get heavy, and the floor gets a bit muddy, but we just mop it up and keep going. It’s just a regular neighborhood shop where you can get what you need for your meals.
