Punjabi Store

You can find Punjabi Store over at SVP Nagar 352 in the Chickpet area. Chickpet is always a bit of a maze, with narrow lanes and people moving in every direction, and our shop is tucked right into the mix. We carry a bit of everything, mostly fabrics and clothes that people use for everyday wear or for special family occasions. The shelves are packed tight, and sometimes the piles of bright cloth get a bit messy after a busy morning of showing things to customers. It’s not a polished boutique with fancy mannequins in the window. It’s a place where you can touch the material and see the actual colors for yourself under the tube lights. We’ve been at 352 for quite some time, and the building shows its age a little, but it’s sturdy and keeps us dry. The tea guy comes around twice a day, and that’s usually when we take a quick break to sit on the stools. Most of our customers are folks from the local neighborhood who have been coming here since they were kids. We don’t do much fancy advertising or social media. People just know where we are. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we keep the ceiling fans going at full speed. It’s a bit cramped when there are more than four people inside, but we always make it work somehow. It is just part of the charm.
