Punjab Stores

We are tucked away on Ebrahim Sahib Street in Shivaji Nagar. Our shop is at number 23/6, and if you know this area, you know how busy it gets. It’s always crowded with people walking by and scooters trying to get through the narrow lanes. We’ve been running Punjab Stores from this small space for a long time. The shelves are usually packed to the ceiling because we try to keep a bit of everything that people ask for. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes when three or four people are inside at once. We have these old wooden shelves that have been there since the beginning. We spend our days restocking the jars and counting out change. We know most of the faces that walk through the door because they’ve been coming here for years. It’s not a big corporate store with bright lights; we just have a few bulbs and a lot of stock. In the mornings, we roll up the shutters and start arranging the displays. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting boxes and making sure things are where they belong. The street outside never seems to sleep, so there’s always something happening right in front of our door. We just stay focused on the counter and help whoever walks in. It’s a simple way to spend the day, really. We don’t have fancy signs, just the name above the door and our goods on the shelf.
