Prema Steel Center

If you head down Nikol Road in Vijaya Nagar, you’ll find us at number 470. Prema Steel Center is basically a place where we sell all sorts of metal items, mostly for kitchens or small construction jobs. You can hear the clanging of stainless steel pots and plates from the sidewalk sometimes. It’s a narrow shop, so we have to be careful how we stack the buckets and the tiffin boxes so nothing falls over. We spend our days helping people pick out the right size of containers or explaining why one grade of steel is heavier than another. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, especially when the sun hits the front of the shop, but we have a small fan that helps. We aren’t a big showroom with lights and mirrors; it’s more of a practical place where you come to get stuff that lasts. Our counter is usually piled with catalogs and some loose change. We’ve been at this location for a while, and we’ve seen the road outside change quite a bit over the years. Most of our customers are from the surrounding apartments in Vijaya Nagar who just need a new pot or some spoons. We also handle some bigger orders for local cafes that need a lot of supplies at once. It’s just a regular daily routine of opening the shutters, dusting the shelves, and talking to whoever walks through the door. We keep things simple and just focus on the inventory.
