Popular Fish Stall

The stall is right there on the 2nd Cross of Venkatapura Main Road in Mathikere. It is number 6. If you live around here, you know how crowded it gets in the mornings. I usually get here before the sun is up to set out the ice. The smell is something you get used to after a few years. People come in looking for something for their lunch. I spend a lot of time cleaning and scaling while talking to the regulars about the weather or the price of things. The floor stays cold. We are always wearing rubber boots to stay dry. Mathikere is a busy place with lots of students and families moving around. Sometimes it is a bit chaotic. When too many people show up at once we have to move fast. We do not have any big advertisements or anything like that. People just know where we are. We have been in this same spot for a long time now. The street has changed, but the work is still the same. You just grab the fish, weigh it, and get it ready. It is hard work on the back and the hands. That is just what we do. By the evening, we are mostly just washing down the crates and getting ready for the next day. It is a routine that doesn't change much and keeps us busy. We just keep the buckets filled and the ice fresh.
