Parnika Rice Traders

At Parnika Rice Traders, we spend our days surrounded by bags of rice. We are set up in Nandini Layout, over at Bhattha Paldi 29. It’s a busy neighborhood and we fit right in with the other shops on the street. The smell of grain is pretty much everywhere here. We spend a lot of time loading and unloading trucks that come and go throughout the week. It’s heavy work, and our backs usually feel it by the end of the day. The shop floor is always covered in a bit of fine dust from the rice sacks, no matter how much we sweep. People from around Nandini Layout come in for their monthly supplies. We know most of them by name now. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; a lot of it is still written down in ledgers because that’s what we’re used to. Bhattha Paldi can get a bit congested, especially when a big delivery arrives and blocks the narrow road for a few minutes. We try to be quick about it so the neighbors don't get annoyed. It’s a simple business. We buy rice, we store it, and we sell it. There aren’t any big secrets to it. We just try to stay honest and keep the inventory moving.
