Nisha Rice Mill

Nisha Rice Mill sits at 67/65 in the Basavangudi area of Gavipuram. It is an old building and the walls have seen a lot of years. We do the milling right here on the premises. If you are looking for us just head towards Gavipuram and you will find the street easily enough. The work is dirty and loud but it’s what we know how to do. The machinery we use is getting on in years but it still runs fine if you treat it right and oil the parts regularly. Every morning we check the belts and the motors before we let the first load of paddy in. Basavangudi is usually quite busy so there are always people moving around outside. We try to keep things organized inside but when several loads arrive at once the place gets crowded fast. My family has been involved in this kind of work for a long time. We don't have a website or any of that stuff. We just open the doors and get to work. Sometimes the neighbors complain about the noise of the huller but we try to finish up before it gets too late in the evening. There is a specific rhythm to the mill that you get used to after a while. You can tell by the sound if the grain is feeding in too fast or if something is stuck in the sieve. It's just a regular local mill doing its job.
