Nirudyogi Steel & Cement

If you’re driving down Subramanyapura Main Road in Uttarahalli, you’ll see our place at No. 5 in Chikklasandra. It’s a busy spot, especially with all the new houses being built around here lately. We have a mix of steel and cement piled up, which makes for a heavy day of work every day. The traffic on the main road is usually pretty thick, so we have to be careful when the trucks are backing in. It’s a lot of physical work, moving rods and bags, so we’re all pretty tired by the time evening rolls around. The yard is a bit cramped because we try to keep a lot of variety in stock. We don't have any fancy signs or a big air-conditioned office. It’s more of a practical setup where we can get stuff loaded quickly. The dust from the cement settles on everything, so we’re constantly cleaning off the desks and the scale. We have a small group of guys who have been here for a long time, and we pretty much know the drill by heart. Sometimes we have to stay late if a big delivery is delayed by the Bangalore traffic. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. We talk to the local contractors and the neighbors who are doing some DIY work. It’s just an honest day's work in a busy part of town. We just keep our heads down and get the job done.
