National Cottage Emporium

Our shop, National Cottage Emporium, sits at 70 Infantry Road. We are right near Mercury Travels, which is a good landmark if you’re trying to find us for the first time. The building is older, but it has a lot of character. Inside, we’ve got piles of textiles and various handcrafted items. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes. We try to keep it organized, but when new stock arrives, everything gets shuffled around. It’s just the way things go here. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; a lot of it is still written down in big ledgers. It feels more reliable that way to us. The light comes in through the front windows in the afternoon and hits the fabrics just right. We’ve been on Infantry Road for a long time, and we've seen businesses around us come and go. We just keep doing our thing. It’s a family-run kind of place, so you might see one of us eating lunch at the back desk. We don’t put on any airs. If you want to look around, you’re welcome to, and we won’t bother you too much. It’s a quiet life for the most part, focusing on the goods we have and the people who walk through the door.
