N K General Stores

N K General Stores has been in Hoskote for quite some time. We keep all sorts of things on the shelves, from soap to big bags of rice. It’s a bit dusty sometimes because the road is right there. We don't have a big sign, just the door open. Most people come in looking for one thing and end up talking for ten minutes. That's just how it goes here. I spend my day counting change and moving crates around. The back room is full of stock we haven't put out yet. It’s hard to keep everything organized when it's just me and my cousin helping out. We get deliveries every Tuesday. The truck usually blocks the way for a bit. People don't mind much. We have these old wooden counters that have been here since we started. They're a bit scratched up now. We don't have fancy scanners or anything. We just know the prices. If someone is short a few rupees, we usually just tell them to pay next time. Hoskote is growing, but our shop stays about the same. It's a steady job. We open up early before the heat gets too bad. By evening, it’s quiet again. We just sell what people need for their houses. It isn't a complicated business. We keep the ledger in a drawer under the desk. Sometimes the cat from next door comes in to sleep on a sack of grain.
