We are set up at Residency Road, right by Mahadeo Mandir Chowk in Hadapsar 136. Mend Square is basically a place where we fix things up. We have a couple of heavy-duty sewing machines and a large table for cutting and measuring. Our day is mostly spent hunched over fabric or leather, trying to mend a tear or replace a zipper that has given up. It is not a quiet office job; there is always the clatter of the needles and the sound of people talking outside near the temple. We get all kinds of items brought in, from old school bags that need a new strap to jackets that have seen better days. The space is filled with spools of thread in every color you can imagine. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who have been doing this for years. Sometimes the work piles up and we have to tell people to come back in a few days. We don't have a fancy computer system for tracking things, just a notebook and some tags we pin to the clothes. The street at Hadapsar 136 is always busy, and we get a lot of walk-in traffic from people just passing by. We take pride in the fact that we can fix things instead of people having to throw them away. It is just a simple, local business where we work with our hands.
