Peenya is known for being loud and industrial, and our shop is no different. We spend the day working with metal sheets and punching out forms for various clients. The sound of the presses is something you just get used to after the first week. It’s a gritty environment, with grease on the floor and the smell of cooling oil in the air. We don’t have a front office with air conditioning. Instead, we have a small corner with a table where we look at blueprints and write down orders. The crew here is small, mostly locals who have been doing this kind of work since they were young. We don’t talk much about visions or strategies. We just make sure the dies are sharp and the press is hitting the right spot. If a machine breaks, we fix it ourselves and keep going. It’s a lot of standing on your feet and checking the output to make sure it’s not crooked. The 2nd Stage area is always crowded with trucks, so getting materials in and out is always a bit of a struggle. But that’s just how it is here. It’s a practical place for people who don't mind getting their hands dirty and doing the work properly.
