Mariyappa First Grade College, Bangalore

Our college is located right at 51/97 on 22nd Cross in Vijayanagar. It’s on the 20th Main, so it’s right in the heart of a very active part of Bangalore. We’ve been part of this community for a long time, and the building itself has a lot of history with the students who have passed through here. It isn't a massive campus with sprawling lawns, but we make the most of the space we have. There are classrooms, a bit of space for the staff, and students always hanging around the corridors or the entrance between classes. Vijayanagar is a great place for a college because everything is so close by. You have the shops, the bus stops, and plenty of places for students to get a bite to eat. The atmosphere is usually quite loud and energetic, which is what you’d expect when you have a lot of young people around. We don’t try to act like one of those elite private institutions with fancy gates and uniform guards. We are a local college for local people. Our focus is just on the teaching and making sure the students have what they need to pass their exams. The furniture is a bit old, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it’s a place where learning actually happens. We just take things one semester at a time and try to keep everything running smoothly for everyone.
