We’ve been here at 584/1 Basaveshwara Nagar for quite a while now. Most days it’s just us working with wood and trying to get things out the door. The shop gets a bit dusty with all the cutting going on, but that is how it goes when you’re making tables and cupboards. People from around the neighborhood stop by to ask about a bed frame or maybe a new set of chairs for their dining room. We keep different kinds of wood in the back, mostly whatever is available and strong enough to last. It isn’t a fancy showroom with bright lights. It’s more of a place where you can see the work happening right in front of you. Sometimes we’re busy sanding down a surface for hours just to get it right. My hands are usually covered in some kind of polish or sawdust by the end of the day. If you walk past the building, you’ll probably hear the saws running. We handle the deliveries ourselves when we can, though the narrow streets around Basaveshwara Nagar make it a bit of a challenge sometimes. We do not have a big team, just a few of us who know how to handle the tools. It’s hard work, especially in the heat, but seeing a finished wardrobe ready to go makes it okay. We just focus on getting the measurements right and making sure the hinges do not creak after a month or two.
