Manikanta Rice Corner

We are located at 3034 in Shastry Nagar, right over in BSK 2nd Stage. Most people just call it the rice shop on the 14th Cross in Nagarbhavi. We have bags of rice stacked up everywhere. It smells like grain the moment you walk in. We get all different kinds, from the regular daily stuff to the more expensive basmati. The floor is usually covered in a bit of dust from the bags being moved around. We spend a lot of time weighing out portions for people who only want a few kilos. Then there are the big orders for weddings or festivals that we have to load into autos. It’s heavy work and our backs feel it by the end of the day. The shop has been here for a good while. We know most of the families in the neighborhood. They come in to check the quality before they buy. Sometimes we have to deal with pests, so we keep everything sealed up tight. It’s a simple business. We buy from the wholesalers and sell to the locals. We don't have a computer system, just a thick book where we write everything down. The 14th Cross gets busy in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work. We stay open late to make sure everyone can get their groceries. It’s just us running the place day in and day out, six days a week.
