Up here on the third floor of Raheza Chambers, things stay pretty busy throughout the day. We are located right on Madras Bank Road, where the 4th Cross and Triveni Road meet. It is a central spot which helps because we have to manage a lot of different routes for the vans and cars. The office isn't anything special to look at, just desks, computers, and a lot of phone chargers plugged in everywhere. We spend a lot of time looking at screens and talking to drivers who are stuck in traffic or trying to find a specific pickup point. Sometimes the schedules change at the last minute and we have to scramble to fix the rosters so nobody is left waiting on the curb. It gets stressful when the rain starts because everything slows down in the city. We have a small pantry where we keep some biscuits and a kettle for tea. Working in transport means the day doesn't really end at five o'clock; there's always a vehicle moving somewhere that we need to keep track of. We use the back stairs more than the lift because it’s faster when you’re in a hurry to get downstairs to meet a driver. The windows look out over the street and we can see the chaos of the intersection below. It’s just a regular office job but with a lot more phone calls than most people would like to handle.
