Madhan Provision Stores

If you come down Sarjapura Sudama Walkeshwar Road, you'll find Madhan Provision Stores right there. It’s a simple grocery shop, nothing more, nothing less. We spend our days hauling heavy bags of rice and flour around, making sure the bins are full for the people who stop by after work. The road outside is always under construction or has a lot of traffic, so it gets pretty dusty inside the shop. We have to spend at least an hour every morning just dusting the cans and packets on the shelves so they look okay. We don't have a lot of space, so we have to stack things all the way to the ceiling, which makes it a bit of a squeeze when more than two people are inside. We mostly sell the basics like oil, sugar, and lentils. It’s a lot of repetitive work, weighing things out and putting them in bags, but it keeps us busy. Sometimes we run out of something and have to wait for the truck to show up, which can take forever with the traffic on Walkeshwar Road. We just sit on our stools behind the counter and wait. Most of our customers are the same folks who live in the apartments nearby. We know their names and what they usually need, so it’s a pretty friendly atmosphere even when it’s chaotic. It is just a neighborhood corner store.
