M. L. Rice Traders

M. L. Rice Traders is located at No. 38 on Nethaji Road in Frazer Town. If you’ve been to this part of town, you know it’s always got a lot of energy. Our shop is basically filled with stacks of sacks. The smell of grain is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We spend a lot of our time weighing out rice and checking the quality of the new batches that come in. It’s physical work, moving those heavy bags around, so we’re usually a bit tired by the end of the day. The floor always has a thin layer of grain dust on it, no matter how much we sweep. Customers come in and out all day, some buying just a few kilos and others taking a whole lot for their restaurants. We have a small table in the corner where we sit to take the money and write out the slips. Nethaji Road is always noisy with horns and people shouting, but inside the shop, it’s a bit more focused. We’ve been here for quite some time, so we know the regulars by name and how they like their grain. We don't do much in the way of advertising. Most of our work comes from people just knowing we’re here at number 38. It’s a basic business, but it keeps us busy and we like the rhythm of it. It’s how things have been for years.
