M C Mutton Corner

M C Mutton Corner is located at Cubbon Road SV Road 153. We are right there where the roads meet, so it gets very busy with people passing by. Every morning we have to get the meat ready and hang it on the hooks. We spend a lot of time sharpening our knives because the work is constant. People come in looking for specific cuts of mutton for their Sunday lunch or special dinners. We chop the meat on big wooden blocks that have been worn down over the years. It is a lot of standing and moving around in a small space. We have a fan but it doesn't do much when the sun is hitting the front of the shop. We keep everything as clean as we can, washing the surfaces down with water throughout the day. The noise from the traffic on SV Road is always in the background while we work. We don't have a computer or anything, just a simple book to write down what we sell. Some customers have been coming to us for years and we know exactly what they like. It’s a straightforward business with no frills. We just focus on getting the meat ready and serving the people who walk in. When the meat is finished for the day, we scrub everything down and head home. It is honest, hard work that keeps us going through the week.
