Laxmi Rolling

Laxmi Rolling sits at No.-49/1 on Hosur Road, right by the Koddadlur Junction Gate. If you have ever driven past that junction, you know exactly how hectic the traffic can be with all the trucks and buses zooming past. Our building is right in the thick of it. Inside, the air is usually hot because the rolling process generates a lot of heat. We spend the day moving metal through the rollers and making sure everything comes out the way it is supposed to. It is heavy work and we all wear thick boots to keep our feet safe. The walls are a bit stained from years of soot and the floor is cracked in a few places where heavy bundles were dropped. We do not use any fancy software to manage our day; it is mostly just us talking to each other and keeping track of things on a chalkboard. When the machines are running, you have to shout to be heard over the roar. It is a very physical environment. We take our lunches sitting on some old wooden crates near the back entrance where there is a bit of a breeze. Most of our customers are people who have been coming to us for a long time. We do not spend money on big signs or advertisements. We just show up at the shop, open the shutters, and start the rollers. It is a repetitive but necessary grind that fills our weeks.
