Kenna Metal

Up on Tumkur Road, at the 8/9th Mile mark, you will find Kenna Metal. The location is right by the main road, so there is always the sound of heavy trucks and buses passing by. Our building is a sturdy one, meant for handling heavy metal work and storage. Inside, the air smells like oil and cold steel. We spend our days dealing with cutting tools and various metal pieces that need processing. It is a big space, but it feels smaller because of all the machinery and the crates stacked up. The floor is marked with yellow lines that have mostly faded over the years. We don’t have much in the way of decoration. There are some old calendars on the wall and a few clocks that don't always show the right time. Most of the work is manual and requires us to be on our feet for most of the shift. We wear heavy boots because there are always bits of metal on the floor. In the mornings, we start by checking the machines and getting the day's list ready. It is a lot of routine, but it's what we know. When the sun goes down, the lights inside the shop feel a bit dim, but we keep going until the work is finished. It’s a plain, hardworking environment without any extra fuss or fancy talk. We just do the job and head home.
