Indira Rice Traders

Indira Rice Traders is located in Indira Nagar at 31-35. We are basically a grain shop where we sell different kinds of rice in bags of various sizes. It’s a very traditional kind of business. The smell of raw grain is the first thing you notice when you walk in. We have sacks piled high against the walls, from basmati to the everyday Sona Masuri. People from around the neighborhood come in to buy their monthly supplies. We spend a lot of time weighing out portions or helping someone load a 25-kilo bag into their car or onto their scooter. Indira Nagar is a nice area, though it has changed a lot over the years with all the new cafes and shops. We’ve stayed pretty much the same. The floor is usually a bit dusty with rice husks, and we use a simple calculator to figure out the totals. We don't have a website or anything like that; people just know we are here. Sometimes we chat with the customers about the quality of the new harvest or how the prices are going up. It’s a simple life, dealing with a basic necessity like food. We open early to catch the morning shoppers and stay until the evening rush is over. It’s steady work and we like the routine of it. We just keep our stock full and help the people who come by.
