We are located at 1/A on Sardar Patrappa Road, right near the corner of Gowden Street. It’s a heavy place to work because of all the steel we handle every day. The air always smells a bit like iron and old grease. Gowden Street is quite tight, so when the trucks come in to drop off materials, everything else just stops. We have to be quick with the unloading or the traffic pile-up gets really bad. The floor is concrete and scarred from years of dragging heavy metal sheets and bars across it. It’s not a place where you want to wear nice clothes. We wear our old stuff because the rust and dust get everywhere. Most of the day is spent checking the stacks and making sure we have what people are asking for. It gets really hot in the summer under the roof, so we keep a couple of old fans running, though they don't do much. The neighborhood is full of other shops doing similar things, so there is always a lot of clanging and banging going on. We know the other shopkeepers around here pretty well. We share news about the market over a cup of tea in the afternoon. It is hard work and your back definitely feels it by the end of the week, but this is what we know how to do for a living.
