Guptha Steel Center

This shop is Guptha Steel Center and we've been sitting here in Sir Mv Layout for a good stretch of time. If you know the 1st Cross area near Dhanalakshmi, you’ve probably walked past us a dozen times. We're pretty close to G. T. Road, so it’s easy to get stuff in and out. Mostly, we deal with steel. There’s stacks of it everywhere, and it gets dusty. I spend a lot of time moving things around to make space. It’s hard work, and my hands are usually dirty by noon. We don’t do much talking, mostly just measuring and cutting what people need. People come in looking for specific pieces for their projects. Sometimes they know exactly what they want, and other times they just show me a drawing. We have been in this spot long enough that the neighbors know us by name. It isn't a flashy place, just a warehouse with a lot of metal. The floor is concrete and cold in the mornings. I usually have a cup of tea before the first customer shows up. We try to keep things organized, but when a big shipment comes, it gets messy for a few days. That’s just how it goes with steel. It’s heavy and takes up a lot of room. We just keep at it, day after day, year after year, just doing the work that needs doing to keep the place going.
