Garmac Inter-Fabs

Garmac Inter-Fabs is right on Armstrong Road in Shivaji Nagar, at 1A 169. This part of the city is always moving, and there’s never a quiet moment outside the window. You can hear the bikes honking and people shouting to each other across the street. We’re tucked away here, dealing with fabrics and whatever else comes through the door. The shop floor is usually covered in little bits of thread and cloth scraps that we sweep up at the end of every day. We don’t really do much in the way of decorating the place. It’s functional, with big tables for laying out the material and shelves that go all the way to the ceiling. Sometimes the light bulbs flicker and we have to give them a tap to stay on. People who live around Shivaji Nagar know us by now, but we don’t get many strangers just wandering in. It’s mostly just business. When it rains, the water pools up a bit near the entrance, so we have to put down some old sacks to keep people from slipping. We usually have the radio playing in the background, mostly just to drown out the noise of the traffic. It’s a small operation, and we like it that way because it means we know where every single roll of fabric is located without having to check some complicated computer system.
