Fredes

Our shop is Fredes and we are located at Banaswadi number 36. It’s a residential neighborhood for the most part, so it’s not as chaotic as the city center. We operate out of a small storefront with a big glass window. Most of the space inside is taken up by shelves and a couple of glass display cases. We spend our days organizing the stock and talking to the people who live nearby. Many of our customers have been coming here since we first opened. We sell everyday things like bread, eggs, and some snacks. We don't have a computer system to track everything; we just use a paper notebook and a small cash box. The light in the shop is a bit yellow and it makes the place feel warm in the evenings. We don't have any air conditioning, so we keep the door propped open with a heavy stone. Sometimes a stray dog will sit outside the door and watch us. We don't mind. The routine is the same every day. We open up, sweep the floor, and wait for the first customer. It’s a slow pace and that suits us just fine. We don't do any advertising or put up big posters. People just know where we are. It’s a modest way to run a business and we are happy with it. We hope to stay at this address for many more years to come, just serving the neighbors.
