Fish Mart

Fish Mart. This place is right in the middle of the Markarpura Industrial Estate. It’s 3776 in the GIDC area of Banashankari 2nd Stage. It’s usually pretty loud around here with all the factories and trucks moving about. We get here early in the morning when it’s still dark to get everything ready. The floor stays wet most of the day which is just how it is when you’re dealing with fish. We’ve been in this spot for a few years and it’s a bit of a trek for some people to find us deep in the estate. The smell of the sea is always around us even though we’re surrounded by metal and machines. We mostly talk to the drivers and workers who stop by on their lunch breaks. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and cleaning, really. My boots are always soaked by noon. We don’t really have any decorations or anything like that. Just the counters and the crates. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to scramble with the ice, but we make it work. It’s a busy life in the industrial zone. We just try to keep things moving and make sure the deliveries go out on time. It gets quite humid in the afternoon, but the fans help a bit. Just a regular bunch of guys working hard at the mart. We keep our heads down and wait for the weekend to come so we can rest.
