Fatima Rice Mill

Fatima Rice Mill is situated in Kengeri, right near Rampur Chowk. The machines are usually running, so it gets pretty loud inside the building. We’ve been at this location for a good while. There is a lot of dust from the grain, which is just part of the job when you run a mill. We spend most of our time monitoring the equipment and making sure the rice is moving through correctly. It’s hard work, and our clothes usually end up covered in husk by the end of the shift. The area around Rampur Chowk is always active, with trucks and carts coming and going. We don't have a front office or any comfortable chairs for waiting. It’s a working mill, through and through. We focus on the task at hand. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to wait it out, which is frustrating but that’s how things go here in Kengeri. We are just local people doing a job that needs doing. We don’t have a big marketing plan or a polished look. The floors are concrete and the walls are plain. We just keep the mill going. People in the neighborhood know the sound of our machines. It's a simple operation, run by a few of us who have been doing this for years. We just stay focused on the grain and getting through the daily workload.
