Our place, Ducom Instruments, is on the ground floor of Priyadarshini building. That’s at No. 31, 9th A Cross, right off West of Chord Road in Mahalaxmipuram. Bangalore is full of these small crosses and side streets, and we are tucked away in one of them. It’s a ground-floor setup, which makes it easier for moving things in and out. We deal with instruments and technical equipment mostly. It’s a bit dusty sometimes because of the work we do, but it’s a working shop. We don't have a fancy showroom with lights and carpets. It’s just a place where tools and instruments are handled. People find us because they need specific things fixed or built. We’ve been in Mahalaxmipuram for a good amount of time now. The neighbors know us as the guys who are always tinkering with something. We don't talk much about "excellence" or stuff like that; we just focus on the calibration or whatever task is on the bench. It's a small team, and we all know our roles. Sometimes the coffee machine breaks, or we stay late finishing a job, but that’s just how it goes here. The building isn't new, but it's sturdy enough for the heavy gear we sometimes have to move around. We like the quiet of 9th A Cross compared to the main road traffic. We just keep the tools clean and the door open for business every morning. It's a busy life.
