Daawat Basmati Rice

If you look for us in Mahalakshmi Layout, we are near the Jain Derasar at 172/2. It is a busy area, mostly. The shop is full of heavy bags. You can smell the grain as soon as you step inside the door. It is a bit dusty, to be honest. We spend a lot of time just moving sacks from the back to the front. My back hurts most days from the lifting. We don't have a big office or a place to sit comfortably. It is just the space we have. There are always trucks coming and going nearby. Sometimes they block the entrance and we have to ask them to move. We deal with the rice every day, checking the bags for tears. The light in here isn't great, but we know where everything is kept. The temple nearby brings a lot of people past our door. Most just walk by. We have a small desk where we keep the books. It is covered in bits of paper and old pens. We aren't trying to be anything big. We just provide what people ask for and try to keep things moving. It gets hot in the afternoons when the sun hits the front of the building. We just open the doors wide and hope for a breeze. That is how it goes here at 172/2. We aren't looking to change much. The business has stayed the same for years, and we are fine with that. It is just rice, bags, and hard work in this little corner of the layout.
