Craft Foot Wear

We’ve been here at 64 near the Commercial Street police station for a while now. Shivaji Nagar is always busy, especially around the station area. People come in and out of the shop all day looking for something to wear on their feet. Some want something for work and others just want some slippers to wear around the house. It gets quite loud outside with the traffic and the police sirens, but we’re used to it by now. The shop isn’t very big, so we have boxes stacked up everywhere. Sometimes it’s hard to find a specific size right away, but we eventually get there. We keep the doors open to let some air in, though the dust from the street comes in too. My father started this and now I’m here most days. It’s a simple living. We see a lot of regular faces from the neighborhood. Some folks stop by just to say hello while they’re on their way to the market. We don't have fancy lights or a big sign, just the shoes on the shelves and a few chairs for people to sit while they try things on. The floor gets swept a couple of times a day but it’s hard to keep it clean in this part of town. Chakala is a tight-knit spot if you stay here long enough. We just open up in the morning, do the work, and head home when the sun goes down.
