Being right next to the Devanahalli New Bus Stand means there is never a quiet moment for us at Chethan Communications. We are at building number 2, so the smell of bus exhaust and the sound of drivers shouting destinations is just part of our daily life. People are always in a hurry when they stop by. They usually need something fixed fast because their bus is leaving in ten minutes. We do our best with the tools we have on the bench. It’s a small shop but we’ve managed to fit a lot into the shelves over the years. We started this because we knew the area well and saw how many people needed a quick hand with their phones or connections while traveling. There’s a lot of dust that comes in from the bus stand, so we spend a good chunk of the morning just wiping down the glass counters. It’s not glamorous work, but it keeps the shop looking decent. We have regulars who come by just to chat for five minutes while waiting for the Bangalore bus. You hear all sorts of stories from people traveling to the airport or the city. It keeps the day interesting for us. Sometimes we run out of change and have to go to the tea stall next door to break a note. That’s just how it goes in a place like this. It’s noisy and busy, but it is our routine.
